Carl Gustaf Hiort af Orns for Huonekalu Mikko Nupponen, 'Vlipala' bookcase, teak, lacquered wood , Finland, 1950s.
Designed by the Finnish designer Carl Gustaf Hiort, this wall unit is an architectural masterpiece constructed from various wooden elements, resulting in a clear, architectural piece that is flexible in use. A pair of black tripod legs hold a substantial teak shelf, its warm tones contrasting elegantly with the surrounding elements. Above, a white shelving system takes center stage that is completely adjustable and can therefore be arranged in such a manner that the user will suit best. The open construction allows the user to display objects such as books and glassware to ones taste in this light shelf design.
